Sensor-Based Monitoring System
- 🕑 Around 2:00 am
- 🎑 In a dark forest
- 🐘 A herd of elephants were crossing the railway track
- 🚆 Suddenly, a train rushing at a speed of over 80 km/hr comes that way
- 🟠 An orange light flashes up immediately, signalling the elephant movement on the track.
- 🔊 Immediately, the loco pilot understands that he must slow down the train,
- 🛤️ As he comes closer, he also starts honking so that the elephants move back into the forests, making way for the moving train.
- 💡 This scenario was not a possibility until very recently.
❓Do you know what had happened due to the lack of such a system?
- 🐘 Three elephants-a (male), a female and a calf
- 🐾 While the calf playfully placed itself on the track
- 🐘 The male stood beside, and the female was trying to get the calf off the track
- 🚆 A Chennai-bound train unfortunately crashed into them and we couldn’t save any.
How can such tragedies be avoided?
- 🖲️ Sensor-based monitoring system has the potential to save many lives in such scenarios.
- ⚠️ By employing sensors that trigger lights along train tracks,
- 🧑✈️ We can have one kilometer of buffer for the loco pilot to get an intimation.
- 🤍 This will help trains to slow down along animal habitats, further saving the lives of such innocent elephants.
