Connected Modern Cars
- Connected vehicles are getting advanced with high-end technologies and connected components.
- While they make our lives easier, these advanced features can also be risky, as they can act as hidden channels for hackers.
Current threats that compromise modern vehicles:
- Hacking Mobile Apps: Mobile phone apps are increasingly becoming remote controls for connected cars. When they’re compromised, the attackers can get control over your car.
- Malware: Hackers can use malware to hijack a vehicle by accessing insecure connected peripherals like Bluetooth devices and MP3 players.
- Server Break-ins: If a hacker manages to enter into a server, they could access all connected mobile apps, data and manipulate secondary vehicles connected to that server.
- Over-The-Air Software (OTA) Updates: Attackers can sneak in along with these updates to access vehicle systems. This allows them to take control of vehicles from anywhere in the world.
