Qauntum Computing
What is Quantum Technology? Quantum technology works by using the principles of quantum mechanics
It helps to develop powerful computational tools.
How powerful are the tools?
- According to Google, to solve an advanced math calculation,
- The world’s fastest supercomputer takes 10,000 years
- Whereas Google’s Sycamore quantum processor took just 200 seconds
- It’s less than the time you take to make Maggi
- But IBM disagrees with the 10,000+ years claim by Google.
- It says that a supercomputer would take 2.5 days.
- But one thing is clear.
- Quantum computers are extremely faster.
How are quantum computers different from normal computers?
- Normal computers store data in bits.
- Each bit can either be 0 or 1.
- Quantum computers use data that exist as 1, 0 or both at the same time.
- We call them Qubits.
- This combination opens up infinite possibilities.
- It helps us make parallel calculations.
What are the applications of quantum Technology?
- From developing new drugs that could treat currently cureless diseases to managing a vast number of autonomous vehicles.
- From agriculture & education to aerospace & advanced manufacturing
The applications are extensive and transformative.
What is India doing about it?
- India has founded NM-QTA (National Mission on Quantum Technology & Applications)
- Quantum Technology is still in the early stages.
- We are yet to overcome big scientific challenges to make it commercially active.
- This mission can put India in the elite group of countries that pioneer in quantum technology.
- The government in its budget 2020 has announced a National Mission on Quantum Technologies & Applications (NM-QTA) with a total budget outlay of Rs 8000 Crore
